The GE 8709-CA-08 is a PAC8000 I/O carrier that supports up to eight I/O modules in one modular assembly. It serves as the connection platform between PAC8000 modules, field terminals, power distribution, and the internal Railbus network. Official PAC8000 documentation lists it as an I/O Carrier, 8 module with earth bar.
For this reason, the carrier is an important component when constructing or maintaining a PAC8000 Remote I/O station.
Unlike a conventional PLC I/O card, the 8709-CA-08 does not directly perform a single input or output function. Instead, it provides several supporting functions:
The carrier measures approximately 342 mm × 170 mm × 22 mm and weighs about 2.17 lb (approximately 0.98 kg) according to one published specification. It supports an operating temperature range of -40°C to +70°C and a storage range of -40°C to +85°C.
The design also supports 5–95% relative humidity without condensation. Furthermore, the carrier can be mounted on suitable DIN rail profiles or directly on a flat panel, giving engineers greater flexibility when designing control cabinets.
The Railbus is central to the PAC8000 modular architecture. The 8709-CA-08 uses female and male Railbus connectors so that carrier sections and connected equipment can communicate through the internal bus arrangement.
Two 8-pin connectors are provided for bussed field power. In addition, the isolated earth bar provides dedicated M4 screw terminals for cable screens and shields.
This arrangement reduces the need for separate wiring structures and helps keep the I/O cabinet organized.
The GE 8709-CA-08 can be applied wherever compatible PAC8000 Remote I/O modules are required. It is suitable for process plants, manufacturing systems, energy facilities, utility automation, and distributed control installations.
The carrier is also referenced in PAC8000 PROFINET Scanner documentation, where it is used as the I/O carrier for the PAC8000 I/O solution.
Therefore, it can be useful for both new system construction and replacement of an existing carrier during maintenance.
Before installation, confirm the required I/O module count, carrier configuration, field terminals, Railbus arrangement, and power connections. Each module should be properly seated, and all connections should be inspected before the system is energized.
For routine service, check the carrier for mechanical damage and inspect the connectors for dust, corrosion, or loose contacts. The earth-bar connections should also be checked as part of cabinet maintenance.
When replacing an existing unit, match the exact 8709-CA-08 part number rather than relying only on its appearance. Our company can supply the GE 8709-CA-08 PAC8000 I/O Carrier for replacement, spare-parts inventory, and industrial automation projects.
