ABB SENSICAL FCU400-IR
The FCU400‑IR is a non-contact infrared temperature monitoring system developed by ABB for medium-voltage switchgear (e.g., busbar connections, circuit breakers). It detects hot spots via infrared thermal imaging, displays and records temperatures in real time, and prevents local overheating and equipment damage caused by increased contact resistance. The system consists of an infrared thermometer, an optional Pt100 ambient temperature sensor, a measurement computer (caloric energy computer), and a metal housing. Featuring a modular structure, it can be flexibly expanded to meet on-site requirements.

Installation Guidelines
- Location Selection: Ensure the installation site has an unobstructed view for direct alignment with measurement points.
- Fixing: Mount the infrared probe on a metal bracket or panel using screws, maintaining the optimal distance between the probe and measurement points (typically 300 mm - 800 mm, calibratable via software).
- Wiring: Route the power cable (24 V DC) and signal cables through dedicated cable bushings into the device to avoid tension and vibration.
- Grounding: The metal housing must be reliably grounded to meet the shock and vibration requirements specified in IEC 68‑2‑6/27.
- Calibration: Perform a warm-up (approx. 10 min) after initial power-on, then calibrate the emissivity (0.1 - 1.0) and transmission coefficient via software or the on-site panel.
