HIMA K9202
1. Basic Positioning
Product Type
HIMA K9202 is a single-channel safety relay module (Monitored Safety Relay).
Core Functions
It monitors and logically processes signals from safety input devices (such as emergency stop buttons and safety door switches), and safely cuts off the power supply to loads (such as contactors and valves).
Safety Level
The design complies with international safety standards including IEC 61508, IEC 62061, and ISO 13849-1, and typically achieves high safety integrity levels of SIL 3 / PLe / Cat. 4.
2. Brand and Series
Brand
HIMA (Hima), a world-leading supplier of industrial safety systems, enjoys a high reputation especially in the field of Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) for process industries (petrochemical and chemical industries).
Series
It belongs to HIMA’s K9200 Series modular safety relay product line. This series is renowned for its high reliability, flexibility, and ease of integration.
3. Main Applications
It provides basic yet critical safety protection functions for mechanical equipment. It ensures that when hazardous situations occur (such as pressing the emergency stop button or opening the safety door), the controlled equipment can quickly and reliably enter a safe state.
4. Main Functions and Features
Safety Monitoring Functions
- Input Monitoring: Detects the status of the safety input circuit (open circuit, short circuit, ground fault).
- Cross-Circuit Detection: Capable of detecting common wiring errors (such as cross wiring).
- Forced-Guided Contacts: The output relay adopts a mechanically linked “forced-guided” or “positive-guided” structure. This is a core feature of safety relays, ensuring that normally open (NO) and normally closed (NC) contacts do not close simultaneously in case of faults like contact welding, so that the fault can be detected by the diagnostic circuit.
- Self-Diagnostic Function: The module continuously performs self-diagnostics to ensure its own functions are normal.
Input and Output Characteristics
- Input Channels: Usually single-channel or configurable as single-channel (depending on specific model variants), with a semiconductor output feedback loop (for monitoring its own output status).
- Output Characteristics:Reset Method: Supports Manual Reset or Automatic Reset, which can be configured according to safety requirements. Manual reset is a common choice, requiring manual confirmation of fault resolution before restarting to prevent accidental restart.
- Safety Output: 2 or 3 safety normally open (NO) contacts, used to control the load power supply.
- Auxiliary Output: 1 or more semiconductor feedback signal outputs (NO/NC optional), used to provide “safety circuit status” signals (such as “relay tripped”) to the upper-level control system (e.g., PLC).
Reliability and Diagnostics
- High Safety: Ensures extremely high fail-safe performance through redundant internal circuits and forced-guided contact design.
- Status Indication: Clear LED indicators (for power, input status, output status, fault status), facilitating quick commissioning and fault troubleshooting.
- Short-Circuit Protection: The output terminal usually has a short-circuit protection function.
5. Working Principle and Wiring Diagram
Basic Working Process
- Normal State: The safety input circuit is closed (e.g., the emergency stop button is not pressed, the safety door is closed), the module is powered on, the safety output contacts are closed, the load (contactor) is powered on, and the equipment operates. The feedback signal output indicates the “running” status.
- Triggered State: When the safety input circuit is disconnected (e.g., the emergency stop button is pressed, the safety door is opened), the internal logic of the module acts, the safety output contacts are disconnected, the load power supply is cut off, and the equipment stops. The feedback signal output status changes.
- Reset Process: After troubleshooting, the input circuit needs to be reconnected via a reset button or reset signal to restore the module’s output.
Typical Wiring Schematic (Taking Emergency Stop Button as an Example)
- Input Side: The normally closed contact of the emergency stop button is connected in series in the input circuit (S11-S12 or similar terminals) of K9202.
- Output Side: The safety output contacts (13-14/23-24/33-34) of K9202 are connected in series in the power circuit that controls the main contactor.
- Feedback Side: The auxiliary output (e.g., 41-42) is connected to the digital input module of the PLC to monitor the emergency stop status.
7. Installation, Configuration, and Commissioning
Mechanical Installation
It is usually installed using a standard DIN rail (35mm).
Electrical Connection
Wiring is done using screw terminals.
Configuration
K9202 typically uses hardwired logic, and basic parameters (such as reset mode: manual/automatic) are set via jumpers or DIP switches (if available). Its logic functions are determined by the external wiring method.
Commissioning and Testing
- Check the power supply voltage.
- Simulate trigger input (e.g., press the emergency stop button) to verify whether the output is disconnected correctly and the equipment stops safely.
- Test whether the reset function works normally.
- Check whether the feedback signal is correctly sent to the PLC.
