1. Overview
The IC698CPE020-GM is a central processing unit (CPU) manufactured by GE (GE Fanuc), belonging to the PACSystems RX7i series. As the core component of the entire control system, this module is responsible for executing user programs, controlling I/O modules, and realizing automated control functions. It is upgraded from the original 700MHz Pentium III floating-point microprocessor. The suffix “-GM” represents the revision GM of this model. Manufactured in the United States, it serves as an enhanced and upgraded replacement for versions such as IC698CPE010.

3. Product Features
High Performance: Equipped with a 700MHz processor, it delivers a standard execution speed of approximately 0.14 milliseconds per 1000 Boolean contacts.
Large-Capacity Storage: Built with 10MB RAM and 10MB non-volatile flash memory. The NVRAM is used for storing user data, program configurations and system firmware stably.
Diversified Communication Capabilities: It supports Ethernet, serial ports (RS-232/RS-485) and station manager ports, and is compatible with SNP-X, Serial I/O and Modbus RTU slave protocols, enabling stable communication with programmers and HMIs.
Multi-Programming Language Support: Compatible with Ladder Logic, C programming, Function Block Diagram and Structured Text. It supports the execution of floating-point mathematical operations and Boolean functions.
Powerful Network Functions: It supports up to 16 concurrent Web and FTP server connections.
High Reliability: Adopting industrial-grade design and complying with IEC 61131-3 standards, the module is adaptable to harsh industrial working environments.
4. Structure and Composition
The module adopts the VME64 standard architecture and communicates with I/O modules and intelligent modules through the rack backplane.
The CPU realizes data interaction with HMIs via an embedded Ethernet port.
It is equipped with 3 serial ports and 2 Ethernet ports for multi-scenario communication access.
A CMOS battery is configured to maintain normal RAM operation and data retention.
It is installed in Slot 1 of the RX7i rack. Slot 0 of the rack is reserved for the power supply unit, while Slot 1 and Slot 2 can accommodate CPUs with Ethernet sub-boards.
5. Application Fields
The IC698CPE020-GM is widely applied in high-performance automated production lines, robot control, process control, as well as data collection and analysis systems. It covers multiple industries including automobile manufacturing, electronic manufacturing, food and beverage processing, and pharmaceutical production. It is also applicable to process control, machine control, motion control and SCADA systems, providing real-time precise control for machinery, production processes and material processing systems.
6. Installation and Maintenance
6.1 Installation Precautions (in accordance with RX7i Manual GFK-2222)
1. Record the MAC address of the CPU before installation;
2. Insert the CPU into the corresponding slot of the rack;
3. Connect Ethernet and communication cables correctly;
4. Restore the power supply and connect the CMOS battery.
6.2 Maintenance Key Points
1. The IC698CPE020 module is usually equipped with a cooling fan assembly for heat dissipation and stable operation;
2. System firmware can be upgraded and updated through the serial port;
3. Module operation can be controlled by a connected computer or onboard three-position switch, and the module function can be disabled when necessary.
