    Structure and Composition

    The GE PCIE-5565 card adopts a standard full-height, half-length PCIe card design and is equipped with a robust metal bracket. Two key ST/LC-type multi-mode fiber optic interfaces are integrated into the bracket—one for “Input” (IN) and the other for “Output” (OUT)—to form a fiber optic network loop. The card is also equipped with multiple LED status indicators, which are used to display real-time information such as power supply, fiber link activity, network status, and fault conditions, enabling quick visual diagnosis.

     

    The internal structure of the card is built around a core RFM ASIC (Application-Specific Integrated Circuit) and a PCIe interface controller. A large-capacity high-speed local memory (256 MB) serves as a locally mapped copy of the global shared memory. When the host CPU writes data to the card’s local memory via the PCIe bus, the RFM ASIC immediately captures this action. It then encodes the data, converts it into optical signals through a SerDes (Serializer/Deserializer) unit, and sends the signals out through the output fiber optic port. At the same time, it receives data from other nodes through the input fiber optic port and updates its local memory. This entire process is fully managed by hardware, ensuring ultra-low latency and high determinism.

    Installation and Maintenance

    Pre-installation Preparation

    Before installing GE PCIE-5565, confirm that the host has an available PCIe x4, x8, or x16 slot. Ensure the computer power is turned off and the power cord is unplugged, and take anti-static measures. Prepare multi-mode fiber jumpers that meet specifications (usually 62.5/125μm or 50/125μm), and carefully plan the network topology (ring or star) to ensure correct fiber connections (the output OUT port is connected to the input IN port of the next node).

    Maintenance Recommendations

    Daily maintenance mainly involves keeping the end faces of the fiber optic interfaces clean to prevent dust and oil from affecting signal transmission; always cover the dust caps when the interfaces are not in use. Regularly check whether the card is securely fixed and whether the fiber optic cables are excessively bent or damaged. The working status of the card can be initially determined through the LED status indicators (e.g., whether the power supply and link are normal). In case of network failures, use the diagnostic tools provided by the manufacturer (such as RFM network monitoring software) to detect node status and data flow, and troubleshoot issues such as fiber breakage, connection errors, or card malfunctions.
