ProSoft ILX56-PBS
The ILX56-PBS is an industrial communication module manufactured by ProSoft Technology, engineered to interface the PROFIBUS DPV0/DPV1 bus protocol with Allen-Bradley ControlLogix controllers via the 1756 backplane. Installed in a ControlLogix system, this module enables users to achieve direct data exchange between the PLC and PROFIBUS masters.
Core Specifications
- Communication Speed: Supports multiple baud rates including 9.6, 19.2, 45.45, 93.75 and 187.5 kbit/s.
- Node Capacity: In slave mode, a single module can simulate up to 10 PROFIBUS slave devices.
- Power Supply: All operating power is supplied by the ControlLogix backplane, eliminating the need for an external power source.

- Multi-mode Support: It not only supports the PROFIBUS Slave mode, but also allows simulation of slaves (DPV0/DPV1) through configuration, while providing diagnostic and alarm functions for the PLC.

- Intuitive Display: The front panel of the module is fitted with a 4-digit alphanumeric display and 3 indicator lights, providing real-time feedback on operating status and mode (e.g., idle, listening or slave communication).
Structure and Components
The ILX56-PBS adopts a standard 1756 rack-mount module structure design. Its main interface is the RS485 PROFIBUS DP port (typically with a DB9 connector) located on the front end of the module, through which it connects to the on-site PROFIBUS bus.

- Cross-protocol Integration: Serves as a bridge between traditional PROFIBUS fieldbus systems (such as sensors and actuators from brands like Siemens and ABB) and modern ControlLogix PLC systems.

Installation and Maintenance
- Installation: Insert the ILX56-PBS into a 1756 backplane slot of the ControlLogix system. Connect the RS485 port to on-site devices using PROFIBUS cables, and configure parameters with ProSoft’s PLX50 Configuration Utility software.
- Maintenance: Monitor the operating status via the display and indicator lights on the front of the module. The module supports Hot Plug functionality, allowing insertion and removal during system operation without power shutdown, which greatly facilitates on-site maintenance work.
