1. Overview
The PLX32‑EIP‑104 is an industrial communication gateway from ProSoft Technology designed to break communication barriers between different protocol systems. It enables seamless interoperability between devices that would otherwise be unable to communicate directly. For example, it can integrate EtherNet/IP‑enabled PLCs or drives into SCADA or DCS systems that use the IEC 60870‑5‑104 protocol.

- Communication Interfaces: Two 10/100 Base‑T RJ45 Ethernet ports.
- Power Supply: Wide voltage range from 10V DC to 36V DC, with a nominal operating voltage of 24V DC.
- Operating Temperature: Designed for industrial environments from -25°C to 70°C, suitable for most industrial sites.
- Data Processing: Supports up to 5 Class 3 server connections and 8 I/O channels (248/248 size). The minimum RPI (Requested Packet Interval) can be set as low as 5 milliseconds.
3. Key Features
- Two‑Port Design: Two independent Ethernet ports for EtherNet/IP and IEC 60870‑5‑104 networks. Enables simultaneous communication on both networks or dedicated channels for each protocol, ensuring high reliability and flexibility.
- Protocol Conversion: Acts as either a client or server on the EtherNet/IP network, communicating with PLCs, drives, and other devices. On the IEC 60870‑5‑104 network, it primarily functions as a server, accepting commands from SCADA or DCS systems.
- High Compatibility: Supports PCCC and CIP message types, and is compatible with various PLC platforms including Rockwell Automation.

- CPU Module: Responsible for protocol parsing and data processing — the core of the gateway.
- Power Supply Module: Accepts external DC power and provides internal power support.
- Communication Ports: Two RJ45 ports for EtherNet/IP and IEC 60870‑5‑104 networks.
- Optional Modules: Some models support SD card installation for expanded storage or logging.
5. Application Areas
- Power Systems: Integrates modern EtherNet/IP‑based intelligent devices into legacy IEC 60870‑5‑104 power automation systems, commonly used in substation automation and distribution automation.
- Industrial Automation: Enables data exchange between different control systems in manufacturing, such as integrating Siemens or Omron systems with Rockwell systems.

6. Installation and Maintenance
- Installation: Typically mounted on a DIN rail for easy integration into industrial control cabinets. Ensure correct power polarity and connect Ethernet ports according to field network requirements.
- Configuration: After installation, configure IP addresses, gateway settings, and protocol parameters using PC‑based software such as ProSoft’s configuration tools. Once configured, the gateway automatically exchanges data based on the defined logic.
- Maintenance: Built to withstand industrial conditions with high resistance to shock and interference. Regular maintenance focuses on ventilation, stable power supply, and cable integrity. Configuration files can be backed up for quick recovery when needed.
