5. Installation and Maintenance Guidelines
Installation
- Align the module with the VME-bus slot, gently push it until it clicks into place, then tighten the screws.
- Ensure reliable connection of the power supply (+24V DC) and ground wire to avoid power noise.
- For hot-swapping, first take the corresponding card offline in the system software before physical insertion/removal.
Wiring
- Input/output terminals use screw terminal blocks. Shielded cables are recommended, with proper grounding at the terminals.
- Thanks to optical isolation, signal lines can cross high-voltage areas. However, reasonable wire gauge and routing spacing should still be maintained during wiring.
Debugging
- Use the VME host’s diagnostic software to read the card’s status registers and check if each group of LEDs is functioning normally.
- Perform individual on/off tests for each channel to verify proper operation of the optocouplers.
Maintenance
- When using hot-swapping, first place the card in a safe state (turn off all outputs) at the software level before replacement.
- Regularly check the tightness of the terminal blocks to prevent loosening due to vibration.
- In case of abnormalities (e.g., constant LED illumination, unresponsive inputs/outputs), use a spare card for cross-validation to identify whether the issue lies with the card itself, the backplane, or the power supply.
