GE PMC-5565
The GE PMC-5565 is a Reflective Memory module based on the PCI Mezzanine Card (PMC) standard. It is designed specifically for industrial automation, real-time control, and high-speed data sharing. Through a fiber optic network, it enables deterministic, low-latency data synchronization among multiple nodes. It is commonly used in systems requiring millisecond or even sub-millisecond real-time performance, such as large-scale electromechanical stations, aviation simulation, and laboratory distributed control systems.
Key Technical Specifications
- Memory Capacity: 128 MByte (multimode) or 256 MByte (singlemode) optional. Corresponding model numbers are PMC-5565PIORC-110000, -111000, -210000, and -211000.
- Transmission Rate: 2.12 Gbit/s
- Fiber Optic Interface: Multimode fiber supports a maximum transmission distance of 300 m; singlemode fiber can reach up to 10 km.
- Number of Nodes: Supports a shared memory network with up to 256 nodes.
- Packet Size: Dynamically adjustable from 4 to 64 Bytes.
- Power Supply: 3.3 V or 5 V, with a power consumption of approximately 3 W.
- Operating Temperature: -40 °C to +85 °C
- Dimensions/Weight: Approximately 50 mm × 30 mm, weighing about 10 g.
Product Features
- High-Speed Deterministic Transmission: The fiber optic network achieves nanosecond-level latency, ensuring real-time performance.
- Zero Processor Overhead: Data replication in the network requires no host CPU intervention, reducing system load.
- Flexible Fiber Optic Selection: Multimode is suitable for short distances (≤300 m), while singlemode is for long distances (≤10 km).
- Modular Design: Compliant with the PMC standard, it can be directly inserted into compatible industrial control chassis for easy system expansion.
- High Reliability: Equipped with error detection and correction functions, and supports interrupt signal transmission, making it suitable for harsh industrial environments.
- Multiple Capacity and Interface Combinations: Offers two capacities (128 M and 256 M) and is compatible with various fiber optic types to meet different application needs.
Structure and Composition
- Fiber Optic Transceiver Module: Responsible for receiving, transmitting, and converting optical signals.
- SDRAM Reflective Memory Chip: Stores shared data and supports 64 MByte or 128 MByte specifications.

Installation and Maintenance Guidelines
Installation
- Insert the module into a PMC-standard chassis slot and ensure the card slot is locked securely.
- Before connecting the fiber optic cable, check the cleanliness of the fiber optic end face and use a suitable multimode or singlemode fiber optic patch cord.
- After powering on, confirm that the supply voltage matches the module’s rated voltage (3.3 V/5 V).
Configuration
- Use the accompanying configuration software or command-line tool to set the node ID, fiber optic mode (multimode/singlemode), and memory capacity.
- Each node in the network must be configured with the same communication parameters to ensure data consistency.
Debugging
- Use diagnostic tools to check the fiber optic link quality (optical power, bit error rate).
- Verify data synchronization between nodes using monitoring software to ensure latency is within the nanosecond range.
Daily Maintenance
- Regularly check if fiber optic connections are loose or damaged; replace fiber optic patch cords if necessary.
- Clean dust from the module’s heat sinks to maintain good heat dissipation.
- In case of abnormalities (e.g., data asynchrony, increased error rate), first check the fiber optic link and power supply. If needed, contact GE after-sales service to obtain repair authorization.
Safety Precautions
- Ensure power is disconnected during installation to prevent electrostatic discharge from damaging the chip.
- Avoid direct operation of the module in flammable or high-electromagnetic-interference environments.
- Ensure the chassis is properly grounded to prevent electromagnetic noise from affecting data transmission.
